Sorry, but her response is as incomprehensible to me as it was to you. Do guys get upset if someone tells them they are handsome-—or intelligent? I can’t understand why they would. Also, WHY would this female person have a stereotypical notion of “guys in the South” either? If she thinks they are all as “dumb” as Jeff Foxworthy, maybe, just maybe, she’s not as smart as you initially thought she was? Perhaps she’s just a good actress.

I think her view of Southern men was more about her thinking they treated women like second class citizens rather than them being a bunch of yahoos. Of course, we know the opposite is true re women — we tend to put them on a pedestal.
