Thompson has repeatedly said "enforce the law". That includes some deportations, but mostly making staying unattractive enough so that they deport themselves.

In my opinion, there are enough laws already. We just don't enforce them. I don't think the solution lies in passing more bills or amendments. It's in cracking down with existing laws. If you do that, the jobs for illegals will dry up and many will self deport and incentives will disappear for others to come.
