And you are interpreting that to mean he wants to give some of them amnesty? Silly me. I interpreted that as meaning that we had to figure that out so that we could ship them back to get started on the legal road to citizenship.
Remember that part about not making it easier for them than the ones pursuing citizenship legally?

“I interpreted that as meaning that we had to figure that out so that we could ship them back to get started on the legal road to citizenship.”

You must have missed the part where he says that rounding them up and shipping them back is NOT going to happen.

“Remember that part about not making it easier for them than the ones pursuing citizenship legally?”

Of course I do. Actually, he said:

“but not make it so easy that it’s unfair to the people waiting in line and abiding by the law.”

“So easy” and “unfair” are subjective. Bush thought learning English, paying fines and back taxes made ‘earned citizenship’ difficult and fair. Pence thought his ‘touchback’ scheme was fair. And both said their plans were not amnesty.
