Finally, the Fredheads can breathe. After months of waiting, former Sen. Fred Thompson (R-Tenn.) will announce his entry into the presidential race next week. Thompson is set to announce his candidacy by video on his website Sept. 6, and then head out on a five-day tour of early voting states.
“I believe that there are millions of Americans who know that our security and prosperity are at risk if we don’t address the challenges of our time; the global threat of terrorism; taxes and spending that will bankrupt future generations, and a government that can’t seem to get the most basic responsibilities right for its citizens,” Thompson said in a statement Thursday.
He added: “The response that we’ve received makes me confident that we have an opportunity to change politics in Washington and across the country, and take on these challenges the way every generation of Americans has faced the challenges of their time — with unity, hard work and a belief that we will come out on the winning side.”
Thompson’s delayed entry, lower-than-expected June fundraising numbers and staff turnover have sparked a number of questions about his ability to capitalize on strong poll numbers.
“We enter this campaign in a strong position,” Bill Lacy, manager of Thompson’s exploratory committee, said. “Fred is consistently near the top in the polls, and conservatives across the country have put together the closest thing to a draft in recent presidential campaign history in an effort to bring about this day. The next few weeks will only serve to build upon those efforts, with house parties nationwide on the 6th, and visits to the early primary states of Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina, quickly followed by stops in Florida and a homecoming in Lawrenceburg, Tenn., on the 15th.”
Thompson’s statement noted that the campaign will have 15 days from the time of the announcement to file formal paperwork with the Federal Election Commission.
When he steps forward, finally, I’ll send him a check.

Fred’s entrance will be good for the party and the country, regardless of who the Republican nominee is.
As soon as it’s official, I’m aiming at putting together $1 million for Fred by bundling.

So this would mean I listened to that liar one more time . Two times was enough to last me whatever lifetime I may have left in spite of my votes .
That’s funny, I wasn’t holding my breath. He’ll get in with plenty of time to beat out the posers and ease out the worthy but not their time candidates.

Guess all the anti-FredHeads are loading up. Getting ready to ratchet up their attack rhetoric that FredT is somehow not up the job. After all, he’s just an actor, he’s got a trophy wife, he drinks bourbon and smokes cigars, he’s a slow talker and for eight years was a do nothing Senator from Tennessee.
I'm glad there will be some folks who underestimate Fred Thompson and his ability to win the nomination. Watching them eat crow will be most satisfying.
It is perfectly legal for someone to go to others and put together donations for a candidate. That’s what the Bush Rangers did. What Hsu did was hide the origin of the donations through shills and other means, which is illegal.

Of course the naysayers and gnats are still going to come up with something to disparage Fred. What the heck will they do when he is trouncing all the rest fo the field in a few weeks?

Hahahaha! Y’all are getting me good! I am serious, though, and I challenge any and all Fredheads, Frednecks and other supporters to keep up with me or exceed my fundraising. We must not let Hillary Rodham Clinton into the White House again!
