LADSON, S.C., Aug. 30 (UPI) -- South Carolina-based Force Protection Inc. has announced its production line of Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles is ahead of schedule.
Force Protection is a manufacturer of the U.S. military's Cougar and Buffalo MRAP vehicles. Fifty Category II Cougar 6x6 vehicles have already been manufactured to support the U.S. Department of Defense MRAP program, which puts the company’s August commitment ahead of schedule.
"We have not yet closed August and are well ahead of our production objectives," said Force Protection Chief Operations Officer Raymond Pollard, in a statement. "This is indicative of the efficiencies of our proven manufacturing processes that are producing a proven solution which has effectively countered more than 3,000 mine detonations and IED attacks in the past four years."
Force Protection's contract with the Defense Department is for more than 1,900 Cougar and Buffalo vehicles.
The Cougar and Buffalo vehicle series has been deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan military efforts since 2003.
"This is also reflective of the fact that our efforts to mobilize industry resources through our partnering agreements are having their intended effects," said Pollard. "We will continue to do everything necessary to meet the needs of our customers and the men and women who depend on these vehicles."
I own a small amount of their stock. If you go to the investorvillage.com site, look up the FRPT message board. There are a number of good links there. It appears that their vehicles are very highly thought of over there in the field. They are meeting production schedules but there have been some delivery slowdowns (not the company’s fault) And the governemnt, in its infinite widom, decided to have several suppliers and have ordered MRAPs from Northrop and a few others. FRPT is still the better product (all in mho)
