Des Moines, Iowa (AP) --

Republican Fred Thompson, whose entry into the presidential race has been long anticipated, will officially launch his candidacy Sept. 6 in a webcast on his campaign site, followed by a five-day tour of early primary states, The Associated Press has learned.

The preliminary campaign of the former Tennessee senator and "Law & Order" actor is to disclose details about how he will formally enter the race in a Thursday afternoon conference call with supporters.

House parties will be held nationwide on Sept. 6. A tour of Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina will quickly follow the Internet announcement on , with later stops in Florida, and a homecoming event in Lawrenceburg, Tenn., on Sept. 15.

On Wednesday, Thompson will appear on NBC's "Tonight Show with Jay Leno" but he won't participate with his Republican rivals in a debate that same night in New Hampshire.

"Whats he scared of? A walking tall man is what America expects."

Exactly, I was enthusiastic about Fred early on, but this back door approach to his so called candidacy is a real turn off.
At this point based on Every speech or interview I’ve seen of Romney I like him. He answers really tough questions and he gets very specific with his responses. No dancing around like most politicians.

“This is a Fox News debate which is significantly better than the rest”

I agree, this will at least be a semi legitimate debate, I don’t even watch those other dog & pony shows. The questions are all hostile towards the GOP soft balls to the Darling Dems and you can almost smell the hostility from the bias/dishonest/slanted moderators.

That's comical. Actually, Mitt was in 1st place in Iowa, NH, Nevada and Michigan when I last checked. Exactly as planned. Money well spent for someone who was a virtual unknown 6 months ago. It's early still. Plenty of time to raise more money and spend it wisely. Plenty of other states to surge in......

Oh, and you must have missed it ----> he's already cleared McCain nationally, according to most polls.

Maybe it’s an announcement of an announcement about further anouncement.

Fred’s not scared — he said he’d run a different campaign, and that’s exactly what he’s doing.

His views have been aired far and wide for some time...Townhall.com, Paul Harvey radio, plus he has an internet blog. Check the internet, he’s talked about a lot of things.

Fred’s appearances on Law and Order were the reason I watched. That look of pain on Jack McCoy’s face every time Fred knocked him flat. (Sam Waterston, who plays McCoy, is a flaming Liberal.)

Is that what it was? I always thought that look of Waterston's was terminal constipation.

Hasn't anyone noticed that the election is in NOV 2008?

I would just as soon electioneering be forbidden until May 2008, with no primaries/strawpolls/caucus held until July.

That is more than enough time to hear the lies and other promises from the politicians, and barely enough time for the leftist "investigative" reporters ("hey, Larry flynt, yah got any dirt on this guy?") to smear anyone they disagree with.
