Des Moines, Iowa (AP) --
Republican Fred Thompson, whose entry into the presidential race has been long anticipated, will officially launch his candidacy Sept. 6 in a webcast on his campaign site, followed by a five-day tour of early primary states, The Associated Press has learned.
The preliminary campaign of the former Tennessee senator and "Law & Order" actor is to disclose details about how he will formally enter the race in a Thursday afternoon conference call with supporters.
House parties will be held nationwide on Sept. 6. A tour of Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina will quickly follow the Internet announcement on , with later stops in Florida, and a homecoming event in Lawrenceburg, Tenn., on Sept. 15.
On Wednesday, Thompson will appear on NBC's "Tonight Show with Jay Leno" but he won't participate with his Republican rivals in a debate that same night in New Hampshire.

You are correct in the sense that our other Republican "Leaders" are leading the sheep in a circle. Fred Thompson knows exactly what it takes to win the nomination and the presidency. You probably felt that Mohammad Ali's strategy of "rope-a-dope" also was not leadership. Ali also knew exactly what it would take to beat his opponents. Stand by and watch Fred eliminate one opponent after another.

You can rant. You can doubt the truth of his conservatism. I’m not going to argue with you either way on that. No passion to do so. haven’t even made up my mind on it yet. But at least keep the rant centered in reality.
There’s only one candidate that has Hannity’s loyalty and that’s Rudy.

I read the first debate that Fred is scheduled to participate in is the PBS debate in Michigan — Morgan State University — on September 27.
I think Fred will surge in the polls at the beginning, and it’s anybody’s guess if he will maintain the surge.
