Howie Carr show live thread
You mean the $7 Million Dollar man!
We can rebuild him.
We have the technology.
We can make him better than before.
Better. Louder. No static.
My memory was off...
Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the capability to make Boston’s first 7 million dollar host. Howie Carr will be that man. Better than he was before. Better louder static free.
I love the smell of fried clams in the morning! :)
today’s poll so far
Has Fred Thompson waited too long to declare his candidacy?
Yes
33%
No
67%
“Unless you listen to talk radio (or read FR) you don’t
know who Norman Hsu is, but you know who Larry Craig is!”
(Hillary fundraising scandal)
Changing topics: Howie Carr seems finally headed to WTKK, filling Don Imuss time slot. Is that good for the station?
Rooney: It may be. Im not a big fan of Howie Carr. I was a fan of Don Imus. I like Jay Severin. I like Michael Graham. I dont think any of those guys, in their hearts, are mean-spirited. I think Howie is. I think his viciousness is genuine
Braude: Full disclosure: Margery and I wanted the job so badly. When our bosses told us [that they hired Carr], my response was You know how much we wanted it. But if I were them, I probably would have hired him, too. Not because Im convinced he will do better than we would have, because I would argue that were better for morning radio than he may be. However, its the end of WRKO ; its great for Jay Severin, because theres no competition now. And it ends the career of the least-talented talk-show host in American history, Tom Finneran.
Rooney: The question is, what does it do for TKK in the morning? Because is that where Im going to go? I was an Imus junkie.
Braude: Well, so was I. A huge fan.
Rooney: For a lot of reasons. I really enjoyed the repartee, and I enjoyed the interviews. I liked the whole shtick.
But doesnt Carr bring a built-in audience with him?
Rooney: What built-in audience? Theyre not going to be up at 6 in the morning.
(sez you!)
I was wondering who was listening to Imus!
yup!
We’ve been talking on the radio boards about Howie and how he would love to go to a) FM, b) signal that doesn’t
fade at sunset, c) station that doesn’t pre-empt him for
Red Sox, d) a morning slot, and e) a station without The Felon.
Someone pointed out WRKO could match his salary demand and
give him the morning show he wants by putting him there and shifting Finneran
to afternoons, or taking Finneran off entirely but there
are various “cut” clauses Finneran must have in his contract, plus Entercom would take a “bath” financially.
Or...Entercom could switch one or two of its lower
rated FM stations (like Mike 93.7 or WAAF 107.3 & 97.7)
to talk and put him there. There you go, Howie, a morning show on FM.
But it’s unlikely these would happen. So even if Entercom
satisfies the salary demand, they couldn’t come through
on his other wishes.
Again, once I hear definitely what’s up with Howie
I’ll pass it along.
MSNBC is airing the Craig bathroom tape
Craig: “I don’t want to go to court with you”
tough to hear
“you’ll have to pay a fine”
“The date is 6-11 of ‘07 and (inaud) hours...Mr craig,
you have right to remain silent etc.”
“I sit down and go to the bathroom, you said our feet bumped at they did. I reached down and scootched over and I did.
Next thing I know you reach over and give me a card with
your police info...I am not gay. I don’t do these kinds of things...You’re out to enforce the law but you shouldn’t be out to entrap people either. I reached down my foot like this, there was a piece of paper on the floor, I picked it up...”
Delay on right now. Delay: “fight back against the left-
stream media”
Major Garrett of Fox News thinks Craig will have to resign in the next day or two...
Howie’s about to play whole thing (8 minutes). Follow along:
