The next AG, Part Three (Ted Olson?)
Powerline ^ | 30 Aug 07 | John Hinderaker , et al

I'm hearing that the White House presented three names in its consultation with Sen. Specter, the top Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committtee. They were Ted Olson, Larry Thompson (the number two man under John Ashcroft), and George Terwilliger. Specter preferred Olson, whom the White House also views very favorably, and he likely will be the nominee.

He’s a good man, and well-respected. It just remains to be seen whether the ‘rats will let anyone in the job who doesn’t promise to persecute the Administration for the next 16 months.

Ted Olson?! No way. Anyone who backs the liberal Giuliani for POTUS, has lost their mind. Olson is way off the conservative reservation and not a credible pick for US-AG.

Ted Olson is the best choice, and a perfect slap in the Democrat’s faces. I would love to see the hearings for his confirmation.

I have a different viewpoint. Ted Olson may be the perfect choice, because he is liberal enough to gain confirmation from the RATS. He will only be in office until January 20, 2009. Meanwhile, HE CANNOT ACTIVELY HELP RUDY GIULIANI!

Why a perfect slap in the Democrat’s faces? (I confess, I don’t know a lot about Olson... or knew and forgot.)

Good point TommyDale.

I’d still rather see him away from the reigns of power. I don’t trust him.

Olson’s wife was a Freeper (BKO, I think) and died on 9/11. He knows what we are up against.

He is a constitutional conservative and is a great choice for the job.

Ted Olson represented George Bush for the Supreme Court show down vs Al Gore after the 2000 election. He was superb.

Ted Olsen is a good man.

I’ll never forget that he lost his wife on 9/11.

He was superb.

Which is why I doubt he'll ever be confirmed, even if nominated.

Ok. Thanks for jogging my memory. Yes, this will be a slap, if he can pass the rat senate. They might just block everybody without a Communist Party card or a Mosque Membership.

This has nothing to do with the late Barbara Olson.

Ted Olson has lost it! I’m a constitutional conservative and I wouldn’t back Rooty under ANY circumstance. For any conservative to back a liberal to be the GOP nominee, is a betrayal of conservatism. An act of political expediency at best. What makes this even worse, Giuliani has zero respect for the Constitution. Rooty and Ted Olson are old friends and that makes it even more of an outrage.

He might not get confirmed, but he will make a fool out of any senator who tries to throw hardball questions at him. The hearings would be a great lesson for all of us.

He is the one person who could really make the hearings look just like that. The more absurd the democrats look right before an election, the better.
