NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Toys "R" Us and the Consumer Product Safety Commission on Thursday recalled 27,000 crayon and paint box sets because the printed ink on the outer packaging of the wood cases contains lead.
Moreover, the CPSC said some of the black watercolor paint in the set contains excessive levels of lead, which violates the federal lead paint standard.
The "Imaginarium" box sets were sold at Toys "R" Us stores and on the retailer's Website from Oct. 2006 through Aug. 2007.
The recall involves the "Imaginarium" brand 213 Piece Wooden Coloring Case which includes crayons, pastels, colored pencils, fiber pens, paintbrush, pencil, water colors, palette, white paint, ruler and pencil sharpener in a light tan wooden carrying case that measures about 14 inches by 19 inches.
The product, manufactured in China, was sold at Toys "R" Us stores nationwide and on toysrus.com from October 2006 through August 2007, priced at about $20.

How do you avoid it? Is it always noted on the package, or as in the case with food from China, is just the distributor listed?
What’s some dead kids when the corporation can make 2 cents more per unit by firing all the American employees and having the product manufactured in China.
Hey, it’s all about profits, right?
We do what ever we need to do to lessen it. An example, I had to buy fish sticks a few weeks ago. I bought Gordons, even though there were cheaper store brands. The Gordons said where they were from, Canada.
Yes, Ms. Pelosi.
Ok, I can see there’s a safety problem and if you pay a company to make a product free from toxic chems then you should get what you paid for. However, didn’t we all chew on toys with lead paint and who knows what chemicals and we all survived. Nearly every toy in our toy boxes was foreign made - usually Japan. We can’t wrap kids up in bubbles 24/7. The latest is that kids are banned from playing tag because someone might trip and bruise their widdle knees.
Your grasp of freedom and of economics is tenuous.
“Whats some dead kids when the corporation can make 2 cents more per unit by firing all the American employees and having the product manufactured in China.”
Sad but true.
“Hey, its all about profits, right?”
Of course. A corporation can have no allegience, no nationality, no conscience. A corporation exists for one reason, to make a profit. Besides, the market will adjust, the free market is all powerful. A few poisoned kids, and pretty soon, that manufacturer’s profits will dip. Heck, if they poison enough kids, and the consumer can figure out how to avoid their product, the manufacturer will be incentivized to quit poisoning kids.
See, no problem.
Actually the government passed the laws forcing production to move off shore -
Tell the little buggers to use the crayons to color paper and eat them.
Then, the lead does not matter.
I wish I could get lead in paint for the house again, you could wipe it and wash it and it would be clean. Today’s paints suck.
I bought some mandarin oranges last night and noticed the contained said ‘product of People’s Republic of China.’ I am not sure I will ever even open it. I haven’t heard of any recalls on oranges yet at least.
I only buy that brand for the little ones to chew on the box
Lead, asbestos, DDT, tobacco, and others are used as scare tactics by the left and their Brown Shirts, the trial lawyers, to gain more control over our lives.
In the 70s and 80s several old lead smelters were closed and the ground they were on was dug up and hauled away to a hazardous waste dump because of the potential harm to the residents of the neighborhood. Both smelter and neighborhood had been there for 60-80 years.
Total harm to humans - ZERO. It is all leftist hullabaloo.
Over 90% of all madrin oranges come from China. Same with Garlic, and many mushrooms. I am trying to grow my own garlic in window boxes.
I am confident you are a union member or the dependent of one.
Were it not for the unions many of these jobs that have gone overseas would not have.
“The latest is that kids are banned from playing tag because someone might trip and bruise their widdle knees.”
Only applies to kids insured for “Healthcare”. Kids not insured doesn’t matter. /s
This is just plain stupid. Why don’t we just wrap ourselves up in an inert hermetically sealed nitrogen bottle, and drink distilled water.
Anyone who’s had a silver filling has mercury in his mouth.
The planet had turned into a disease of no common sense.
“I am confident you are a union member or the dependent of one.”
*BUZZ* You lose. False confidence. You are in error in a huge way. I am not, nor have I ever been a union member. The only person I am dependent on is me.
Thanks for playing.
