Up to 10% in Virginia Jails Illegals(Deport 'em all!)

After BOTH borders are secured, all incarcerated illegals should be deported. Why should American taxpayers pay to incarcerate other countries' criminals. And by deporting them, we not only cut down on our prison and jail costs across America but we open up slots for AMERICAN criminals who are roaming about the country unabated! It's not like we are short on criminals and long on cells.

The State of Virginia cannot deport anyone. It can only turn those deemed deportable over to ICE to be deported, which makes the state, and all states, dependent on the federal government to do its job.

That said, under federal law a deported alien may not be admitted to the United States for 5 years after deportation. Entry by a previously deported alien within 5 years of deportation is a criminal offense subject to a maximum imprisonment term of 2 years. Entry by a previously deported alien with a criminal history including a drug offense is a criminal offense subject to a maximum term of 10 years. Entry by a previously deported alien with a criminal history including an aggravated felony is a criminal offense subject to a maximum term of 20 years.

I’d Love to see Virginia, and any state for that matter, to begin the process of creating files for detainees eligible for deportation. They could begin to perform the clerical groundwork necessary for ICE, make the files available and see what happens.

Then if ICE (Feds) do not act, then the State should start pushing back on any requests from Feds for assistance.

I think any politician that would lead the charge on this would become very re-electable overnight.

The failure of the Feds to perform adequate deportation has become an embarrassment. An effort like this could lay the charge that ICE is just not doing their jobs.

10%? That is consistent with what many of us think is the real number of illegals in the U.S. — 30 million in a population of 300 million of legals.

The trouble with your plan is that the state, er, the governor, is already pushing back on any requests from Feds for assistance, despite our attorney general's proposal that we cooperate. See:

Last I heard the estimate for the # of illegals in VA was a quarter of a million. Current VA population 7.6 million. Do the arithmetic and you get approx 3.3% illegals in the current population.

So it looks as though illegals are seriously overrepresented in jails, whether you go with the lowest end of the range or the highest.

So much for Geraldo’s claim that they are underrepresented. His next argument will be that theh data are confounded by male illegals being overrepresented in the age group that commits the most violent crime/DUI. Of course that’s an excellent argument for securing the border in the first place.

I really don't feel that "deportation" is an adequate way to handle undesirable illegals, especially those who have sneaked back after already being deported.

And I am also unwilling to pay the huge costs of incarceration for illegal alien criminals. In a way, jail -- which is very expensive -- is a kind of perverse "benefit" that should be reserved for citizens. We put people in jail and spend piles of money on them in an effort to manage their unacceptable behavior. I don't want my tax dollars invested in illegals. Their punishment needs to be swift and cheap and provide a high probability that they will not trouble us again.

My thoughts are very dark.
