“Its a war, not a study in sociology.”
A study of warfare will indicate there’s more to warfare than just things that go boom and bang. You know this I’m sure.
“Its counterproductive as hell”
That’s why I said in ‘the very end’ earlier. In the very end, it may very well be, but in the last 3 years I would argue that it has not been counter-productive. We (the US) took the policy that we weren’t going ‘scortched earth’, so we (wisely or not) then had to start dealing with the Sectarian/Tribal leadership. I’m a scortched earth sort of guy myself, but seeing as that option was ruled out, I understand it’s not wise to start popping leaders and creating power vaccumes. The sectarian bloodshed was bad enough without doing so.
Right now, the strategy being pushed is to simply defeat ‘Al Queda’. I say, yes...let’s kill Al Queda. There that was easy, but I’m probably like you in that once we claim we’ve stopped Al Queda in Iraq, we’re going to look pretty dumb trying to explain the problems that will exist there. You are right, it is not the West. Suicide bombs, IED’s, Sectarian Bloodshed, assasinations, etc. etc. will still be occuring after we’ve declared victory of Al Queda located there. That’s not Bush’s concern though, he just wants to be able to say he ‘won’ on his watch. I don’t say I blame him, but I also don’t have to buy into his propaganda either. What pisses me off is those who want to call people who think ‘defeatists’. It reminds me of the Monte Python movie with the unfortunate Knight (lol). It will still be a topic during the next Admin as well I’m sure.
Okay.
I’ll just note the past three years haven’t been successful on multiple fronts, both in Iraq, and here at home.
And last falls election cycle underlines it pretty dramatically.
All that said...I’d feel better if we had nailed al Sadr’s head on a stake for public viewing.
“Id feel better if we had nailed al Sadrs head on a stake for public viewing.”
lol :) Would have made for a decent photo-op! Thanks for the exchange, I enjoyed it.
Have a great weekend.
I’d assume this will lessen many of the conflicts. Hopefully some of the dems loosen up on their rhetoric and allow some leeway.
"Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr has ordered a six-month suspension of activities by his Mahdi Army militia in order to reorganize the force, and it will no longer attack U.S. and coalition troops, aides said Wednesday."
They say they are stopping attacks on US and coalition forces. They say nothing about sunnis.
They weren’t attacking US Troops anyway. You won’t find any attacks reported since Falluja in 2004. IT THE SUNNIS THAT ATTACK US!! Everyone there knows that.
