“seems vaguely un-christian”
I’m not sure about whether this carries over as a rule for Christian believers, but OT Law was pretty clear:
Leviticus 19:28 - ‘Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD.’ (NIV)
I don’t recall the NT mentioning tattoos (though I could certainly be wrong). The directive from Leviticus would have been so that God’s people keep away from pagan rituals. I would think the answer for Christians would fall along the lines of the “should we eat food offered to idols?” business that Paul wrote about. If you are firm in Christ, sure, what does it matter since those gods are nothing? If it bothers your conscience, then no way.
I don’t personally want a tattoo. I think some are repulsive and some are very nice. JMO.

i hadn’t pondered the OT quote that’s interesting too...
Ahh.. thank-you for that. I was suggesting things along these lines, without bothering to look them up, in my prior reply to Kawaii.
