New Sako TRG-42 in .338 Lapua Magnum Bolt Action. Sometimes you need to reach out a lot further. That’s where the TRG 42 comes in. Chambered for the potent .300 Win. Mag. and the even more powerful .338 Lapua Mag., this is the rifle to reach for when ranges stretch a quarter-mile and more. Like the TRG 22, the stock is adjustable to your specifications, and a detachable magazine makes reloads fast and sure. When you bring the TRG 42, you’re ready for anything. 27” Heavy Barrel.

A quarter-mile is only 440 yards. Easy stuff for any .308, .270, .30-06, etc. I’ve dinged coyotes on the farm 400+ yards away with a .308 - not a problem. Heck, even the poodle-shootin’ .223 can do 440 yards.

I’d reach for a .338 LM out past 800 yards or more. Especially with the 300gr VLD’s now available that have very high BC’s. The .338 in 300gr is one of those nice, high-BC pills that can carry the mail quite a ways... like the 140 to 160gr 6.5mm’s.

I built a .308 on a Sako action many years ago, medium heavy barrel, one of the best guns I have ever owned, hair on a fly’s butt good.
