Craig Arrested, Pleads Guilty Following Incident in Airport Restroom but Says He Did Nothing Wrong
Roll Call ^ | Aug. 27, 2007 | John McArdle

Posted on 08/27/2007 8:51:00 PM PDT by Anti-Bubba182

"..According to the incident report, Sgt. Dave Karsnia was working as a plainclothes officer on June 11 investigating civilian complaints regarding sexual activity in the men’s public restroom in which Craig was arrested....[snip]

[snip]...“At 1216 hours, Craig tapped his right foot. I recognized this as a signal used by persons wishing to engage in lewd conduct. Craig tapped his toes several times and moved his foot closer to my foot. I moved my foot up and down slowly. While this was occurring, the male in the stall to my right was still present.[snip] The presence of others did not seem to deter Craig as he moved his right foot so that it touched the side of my left foot which was within my stall area,” the report states.

[snip] Karsnia then held his police identification down by the floor so that Craig could see it.

“With my left hand near the floor, I pointed towards the exit. Craig responded, ‘No!’ I again pointed towards the exit. Craig exited the stall with his roller bags without flushing the toilet. ... Craig said he would not go. I told Craig that he was under arrest, he had to go, and that I didn’t want to make a scene. Craig then left the restroom.”

In a recorded interview after his arrest, Craig “either disagreed with me or ‘didn’t recall’ the events as they happened,” the report states.

[snip]..Craig also told the arresting officer that he reached down with his right hand to pick up a piece of paper that was on the floor.

“It should be noted that there was not a piece of paper on the bathroom floor, nor did Craig pick up a piece of paper,” the arresting officer said in the report.

This Roll Call article has more detail than the others I have seen. Craig is toast. No way in hell he gets out of this.

Craig is toast, and it’s clear from the officer’s report what he was doing. That said, it seems odd that the police can arrest someone for what Craig did. They ought to let things proceed a little farther first.

"..They ought to let things proceed a little farther first..."

Not necessary if the accused pleads guilty.

If he did nothing wrong, why plead guilty?

Craig has not indicated if he will run for reelection in 2008. Announced candidates include Democrat Larry LaRocco, a former congressman who was elected to Craig's House seat when Craig was elected to the Senate. Lt. Governor Jim Risch is a possible Republican candidate if Craig retires.

Well I guess the old illegal supporter is finished.

In a statement released Monday night, Craig denied any wrongdoing and said he regrets his guilty plea.

Craig handed the plainclothes sergeant who arrested him a business card that identified him as a U.S. Senator and said, “What do you think about that?”

Craig stated “that he has a wide stance when going to the bathroom and that his foot may have touched mine,”

“I should have had the advice of counsel in resolving this matter,” he said. “In hindsight, I should not have pled guilty.

The story is filled with one-liners for late night TV.

On another note, one must remember to stay within his stall, don't listen to music as you might start tapping your feet, and don't forget to flush the toilet.

The bad thing is that Idaho should be an easy win for the GOP,
provided the GOP Senator is not some lavatory pervert. With
Gonzales resignation and this; today was good for Democrats.

Only in the strange times we live in would someone get arrested for this. Whatever his intent, he did not actually do anything. This must be the Minority Report era of American history.

No innocent United States Senator would plead guilty to anything related to a lewd conduct charge.

The story must be missing something then, or he has a guilty conscience.

I know I ain’t ever going to be caught tapping my feet in a public restroom. I had no idea that that might be construed as making overtures to perverts.

"I think there are perverts in every occupation and profession in this country, and that includes U.S. Senators!"

The Policeman had been staking out public restrooms and knew how perverts operated and their signals. So did Craig apparently or he would not have plead guilty.
