Not just a "supporter" or "endorser" was he? What do you think the clinton/media propaganda machine would make of this if it happened to Romney as a nominee? Remember what happened with Mark Foley? The media used that to tar the whole Republican party.
Add the gaffes Romney has made like this one: ""One of the ways my sons are showing support for our nation is helping me get elected because they think I'd be a great president."
