MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Former state Sen. John Ford argues he should spend no more than 33 months behind bars for taking $55,000 in bribes, but the government wants a longer prison sentence, his lawyer says.
Sentencing is set for 1:30 p.m. CDT Monday before Judge J. Daniel Breen of U.S. District Court. Ford, 64, contends the government paints an unreasonably harsh picture of him in a presentence report for Breen and miscalculates sentencing guidelines.
The guidelines, Ford says, should call for a prison term of 27 to 33 months. "We are going to ask for the lowest sentence possible," defense lawyer Michael Scholl said Friday.
Ford is also scheduled for a pretrial hearing Tuesday in Nashville on unrelated federal charges that he misreported $800,000 in payments from contractors with TennCare, the state's medical insurance program for the poor and uninsured.
But, THANK YOU FRED THOMPSON!
BTW, he’s Harold Ford Jr’s uncle!
As only a democrat could...he had the best of intentions...
Lied about... did not report... covered up... I wonder how many other crooks wish they could use those words when facing charges for shaking down people? Only Dim politicians are allowed the nicer turn of phrase.
It would be news if he pronounced that Ford (D-RAT) had broken a solume public trust and should have the book thrown at him.
IF you liked the Democrat’s TennCare Corruption, you’ll just LOVE HitleryCare!
And his nephew works for FOXNews.
