Rumors about the death of Cuban President, Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz, are nothing new and have circulated many times before, but many Cuban exiles in Miami believe this one is for real.
With no word from Fidel Castro on his birthday (August 13), speculation about his departure have increased. If Castro is not already dead, it is probably safe to say that, from a political point of view, he longer exists.
Fidel transferred his presidential powers to his brother (and successor) Raúl Modesto Castro Ruz earlier this year (although this happened provisionally in July 2006), while receiving surgery to repair gastrointestinal bleeding. Apart from some occasional PR shots of the President, he has hardly been seen at all this year.
Perhaps knowing that his brothers time has finally come to an end, Raul Castro has been hinting that changes may take place soon. Rauls views do differ from Fidels in many areas, but it is only recently that he has made these more public, maybe in preparation for what is to come. One gets the impression that the presidential powers have permanently changed hands now.

Many of Castros opponents also view him as a dictator, while his supporters see him as a liberator.
Raúl Modesto Castro Ruz, born June 3, 1931, acting President and younger brother of Fidel, was an undergraduate at the Colegio de Belén in Havana, studying social sciences, but he was never considered as good a student as his brother Fidel. However, it was Raúl who reportedly befriended Ernesto "Ché" Guevara in Mexico City and brought him into Fidel's circle of revolutionaries. He also established contact with Soviet KGB agent Nikolai Leonov, whom he had met two years earlier during a trip to the Soviet-bloc nations.
Whilst reports of Fidel Castros death might once more be premature, it does appear that his brother has accepted that this is imminent, suggesting that Fidel will not recover from his present health problems and return to duty.
It is unlikely that Raul will make any major changes in Cuba rapidly, out of respect for his brother and until he feels the people have adjusted to Fidels death, but they will happen. It will be interesting to see what role the United States might play in Cubas future, or whether Raul will continue his brothers relationship with Hugo Chávez in Venezuela and Evo Morales in Bolivia.
Sooner or later, this sack of $hit is going to hell.

Is Fidel getting sleepy?

I think that this sucker has possibly been dead since July of ‘06.
On, please
any comments from his press secretary, jimmy carter?
Do you really believe that they are going to admit he has died? Its going to be another episode of weekend at Bernies.
Fidel Castro has been suffering from the same “Soviet flu” that kept a number of prominent Soviet Politburo members out of the limelight (due to serious illness) until they finally passed away. In short, Castro is probably very near death and he’s been out of the public eye for over a year in terms of public appearances.
Fidel might not die this year, Maybe not even this week, Of course, he might have died months ago, and the regime is trying to figure out how to milk it to hang on to their own power.
I don’t think anyone believes Raul will be more than a transitional figure. Not even Raul. But will the generals turn against Raul? Iffy. Will the people, so long cowed, turn against the communists? Maybe, but only with support and encouragement from their Miami cousins.
The US should be building up humanitarian and logistical capacity at Guantanamo Bay. If it all goes to hell and there’s a need for a peacekeeping force, there will be only one logical place to base it.
Didn’t the movie stars meet with him when they went over there? Glover, Belafonte, et al???

The YouTube sing-along was done several months ago. I hope you find it mildly entertaining -— http://youtube.com/watch?v=nTcEhdzUxIA
please put me on the ping list. thanks! :)
Sort of a “Yassir” type of dead tyrant thing?
So, where does Raúl differ from Fidel?
Just dumber? Or policies?
HAHAHA! I almost scrolled past without noticing, good one.
I think he’s been dead for a while now. If they immediately announce he is dead, then there could be a power struggle. Right now, Raul is consolidating power. After that is done, then they’ll announced Fidel is dead.
