As I recall, all those called to testify were missing and unaccounted for. I especially remember John Huang being out of the country and unable to be located. Senator Thompson finally was forced to end the hearings.
I think your recollection is quite correct. What I wondered about at the time — and frankly still wonder about — is why Sen. Thompson didn’t make a major issue of the clearcut cover-up instead of just quietly shutting down the procedure.
