My paternal grandfather worked in China prior to and through the early stages of WW2. He was often at the US Embassy on business or visiting friends.
He hated the Dept of State. Said it was nothing but a haven for socialists and 5th columnists.
He was because he under estimated the number of commies in our government.
Their problem with Joe was never that he wasn’t right — they knew that then and they know it now. Their problem was that he WAS right and they were the targets.

Joseph McCarthy's problem is that he went after the enemy that infiltrated the Fourth of July picnic with a cluster bomb instead of a sniper rifle.
McCarthy did more harm to the anti-Communist efforts than an a shipload of KGB agents. McCarthy helped make anti-Communists something to be feared in the minds of millions of Americans.

If Joe hadn’t been on the sauce, he could have changed the face of power in this country. Instead, he went down and took the whole anti-Communist movement down with him.
Hey guys, good old FDR actually hired commies to work on his economic platform and later were in the WH as advisors. They continued on with Truman and many others infested the State Dept. Commies in the hundreds were and still are members of the RAT party. Now they are called progressives and at worst socialists. Hitlery is one of this variety.
