Subject to interpretation Vick's plea provides more questions than answers

In a June 2000 photo shoot for a story in SI's College Preview issue, Vick was photographed with his pit bull Champagne. Read enough legal documents -- indictments, subpoenas, lawsuits -- and you begin to think of some lawyers as artists. They can write a sentence that appears simple, its point obvious, but if you read it again and again the meaning changes. It becomes more like poetry than legalese, everything subject to your own interpretation.

The statement of fact filed Friday in a federal courthouse in Richmond, Va., as part of the plea agreement for Falcons quarterback Michael Vick, is a perfect example of the duality of what one would expect to be a simple declaration of guilt. Take, for example, the troubling allegation that Vick bet on fights, said to be a big issue in the eyes of NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, who will decide Vick's suspension.

"Vick agrees that 'Bad Newz Kennels' business enterprise involved gambling activities in violation of the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia ... Most of the 'Bad Newz Kennels' operation and gambling monies were provided by Vick ... Vick did not gamble by placing side bets on any of the fights. Vick did not receive any of the proceeds from the purses that were won by 'Bad Newz Kennels.'"

Vick's plea bargain sets the stage for an NFL comeback, 2 years hence. Notice how he got the gambling allegation watered down.

All BS.

He goes to the can. Two years from now, even if he gets a job, he gets no endorsements, ever, nada.

If he ever plays again, every time he burps, people will be watching.

This deal costs him 2 years and $80 million mimimum.

That’s hard.

I don't know about a comeback, it looks like Roger Goodell might have other ideas about that.

The commissioner said Vick's admitted conduct was "not only illegal but also cruel and reprehensible." Even if he didn't personally place bets, Goodell said, "your actions in funding the betting and your association with illegal gambling both violate the terms of your NFL player contract and expose you to corrupting influences in derogation of one of the most fundamental responsibilities of an NFL player."

I am not blaming anyone but Vick.

However, I find it hard to believe that all of this went on without the rest of league knowing.

Before he would let our conversation end, the veteran personnel evaluator made one more point, and said it was something he thought a lot of people within NFL circles have felt as Vick’s long, sordid dogfighting saga has played out the past four months.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen to Michael Vick, and I don’t care,’’ he said, slowly and with emphasis. “The guy has embarrassed the NFL and embarrassed the game that a lot of us care about greatly. He’s not worth any more time and energy and attention. It’s his problem now.’’

Indigent???

Well, after paying his lawyers megabucks, Vick may be indigent, but society??

I'm sure you think you made a cogent statement, but I have failed to see it.

Yep, Society's indigent how Vick killed dogs. Maybe tomorrow the unborn.

Prayers for that awakening in our national soul.

He should be out of the league for good. I’m cynical, like yourself, and expect an NFL comeback.

The rest of the league?

“June 2000 photo shoot for a story in SI’s College Preview issue, Vick was photographed with his pit bull Champagne.”

This coupled with his father’s story, it is obvious that this was probably going on in college, too. Maybe not the funding of the gambling operation, but I’ll be dollars to donuts that the dog fighting was going on.

So, what did VaTech coach, Frank Beamer, know and when did he know it?

Repeat: What did VaTech coach, Frank Beamer, know and when did he know it?

The NCAA should be investigating this, too. However, with Miles Brand in charge, don’t bet on it.

Are you kidding? He is destroyed goods! His stats weren't all great! Vick's career QB rating is 75.8 and last season his 73.1 rating ranked him as the 25th best passer in the NFL! In fact, over the past 10 years the starting quarterback on each of the teams that played in the Super Bowl had an average quarterback rating of 92. The only exception was Ravens quarterback Trent Dilfer (QB rating of 76.6) of the 2000 Baltimore Ravens.

Sorry, The only thing Vick was hot in was in his merchandising, and now Nike has told him to go to hell!

Even cleared he aint worth a nickel! His only worth is to the Canadian Football League at best. Bye Bye Mike!

Well, indignant works better than indigent.

But, one must ask, what makes you think Vick will kill an unborn dog tomorrow?
