If we persistently eliminate the extremists and neutralize their enablers, eventually the jihadi impulses among the muslims will fade. We have a long haul though, at least until the muslims' oil runs out and their countries become dirt poor again.
On the other hand, if we don't keep them in check, we may become the killers. We may suffer so terrible an outrage that we react by slaughtering vast numbers of them. Remember the prophecy about Damascus?
