Don’t get me wrong. We need prisons, but for dangerous criminals who pose a threat to community safety. But for nonviolent offenders, more appropriate punishments such as restitution and community service make so much more sense—for our communities, for victims, and for the overcrowded prison system. Visit the website of Justice Fellowship for more information."

Amen!

I visited 4 prisons and was appalled by what I saw. We are making things worse, and people worse. We must change our system!

The city of Tustin CA. is going to tear down one its two blimp hangers, said to be the largest wooden structures in the world. Not only is one be large enough to house every prisoner in California, the space around the hanger is mostly old tarmac from the Marine Air Station, but their is still base housing that would do for prison guards. The surrounding neighborhood is mostly commercial as I recall but you can get a feel for it with google maps. Here is a URL with more information:
http://www.placesearth.com/USA/California/Orange/code/tustinair.htm For a look at the size of the facility, Googlemaps "Redhill and Edinger, Tustin CA" switch to satellite view and zoom in.
