Deputies with the Maricopa County sheriff's office raided the Cave Creek, Arizona, home of rapper DMX on Friday morning (August 24), and according to a police spokesperson, 12 pit bulls were removed from the residence, all in bad condition. Police would not get into specifics but did say the animals are being tended to by veterinarians.
At this point, DMX (real name: Earl Simmons) has not been officially charged with any crime, but police are still investigating. DMX was not at his home at the time of the raid, during which police also discovered a large cache of weapons. Police do not believe the rapper is in Arizona but would like to question him as part of their investigation.
Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is expected to speak more about the investigation during a press conference outside DMX's Cave Creek home at about 6 p.m. ET.
This isn't the first time police have taken an interest in DMX's dogs. Back in 2002, the rapper pleaded guilty in New Jersey to charges of animal cruelty, stemming from a 1998 raid of DMX's home. Police claimed he had neglected 13 pit bulls. He eventually plea-bargained down to fines, probation and community service, and even starred in a public-service announcement against animal abuse.
The DMX news comes the same day that NFL star Michael Vick admitted his own involvement with dogfighting (see "Why Does The Michael Vick Case Hurt Hip-Hop?"). The Atlanta Falcons quarterback told the U.S. District Court in Richmond, Virginia, that he would plead guilty to "conspiracy to travel in interstate commerce in aid of unlawful activities and to sponsor a dog in an animal fighting venture." Vick faces a maximum term of five years in prison and $250,000 in fines.
Another difference is dogs and chickens fight to the death boxers and football players don’t.
“This is starting to look very racist. I mean wh yarent they raiding the WHITE sports or music stars?
Oh...never mind.”
If Vick had anything to do with this, he’d turn on a white person in a nano second. I’ve also read that blacks view dogfighting as a cultural thingie.
I find it despicable for any skin color to engage in this.
BTW, if you know of a white person engaging in this, TURN EM IN.
Only a true RACIST would defend another black person, really based on color, for torturing and murdering animals for sport and profit. It’s scary that SKIN COLOR make this okay.
Well it worked for OJ. Kobe too.
I can only hope O.J. is shunned the rest of his life.
Several white men have been arrested in my state over the past few years for dog fighting. They had all the equipment that goes along with it too, treadmills, syringes, meds, medical staplers, protein builders etc. Tons of evidence.
The local SPCA had to absorb the cost of housing and medical care for the dogs until it went to trial, since they were evidence. It took almost a year, then the poor animals had to be euthanized anyway, since they weren’t adoptable. The community really tried to help out, donations, supplies. Only bad thing about it was that many ‘good’ dogs had to be put down to make room for these dogs.
A friend who’s a vet in a southern state told me lots of white people are involved in dog fighting there. It’s hard for law enforcement to pin down, since fights are held in basements, barns, sheds etc in out of the way places. Very rural, very isolated and they can change locations. And since just being at a dog fight is illegal, most attendees aren’t going to admit they were there. Much of the time it’s discovered during a drug raid or when someone accidently comes across dog bodies.
What I see going on here, with blacks ... is that no matter how heinous the crime, such as Vick with dog fighting ... black folks don’t care - they want him back in the games as though nothing happened.
O.J. ... blacks threatened to riot if he was not acquitted. The Rodney King episode is another example of ... the truck driver beaten to a pulp because of his color and that was okay.
More and more I see a double standard for crime and punishment. News also indicates the view of Vick is decidedly along racial line - whites see it as reporphesbible and blacks have no problem with it. Worse yet, sick Vick STILL doesn’t want to take full responsibility for his full involvement. Even Vick’s father stated, Vick ran the show - not others ... .
I forget whether is was the NAACP, another racist organization, defended dogfighting as a “black cultural thing.” to further justify winking at Vick. No, it is unacceptable. I hope the state of Virginia throw the book at this guy and the Judge, who is known to love dogs with lots of leeway on the conspiracy charge throws his sorry srse in prison and the NFL bans him - not just suspending him without pay.
That'll get you dead in the pen.
