What worries me is that the mobilization of the National Guard in Florida may be to stop any attempt to interfere in Cuba's future by Florida's Cubans if they are allowed to act. Rest assured. That is ~precisely~ what the mobilization is for. :-(

What puzzles me is..WHY would they (whoever is in charge in Florida) want to do that? Don't we WANT a free Cuba? Wouldn't Cubans exiles help bring that about? Why would we want to stop this??? Please explain, as I don't understand.

I think it’s a fear that we’d get another Mariel boat lift, with criminals and psychos escaping Cuba, mixing in with refugees. I may be wrong, but I’m sure, given turmoil in Cuba, that many would head our way.

theDentist gave an accurate response. There is a real fear of encouraging (by not ~discouraging~) a mass exodus of Cuban refugees from the island to the states.

Also, they want to avoid the possibility of a large number of exiles heading back to claim their homes and property (that now belong to other people) since that would create a major problem in terms of any potential “peaceful transition”.
