I’ve been on that ferry as a walk-on passenger so I don’t know to what extent the cars and trucks are inspected. I do know each passenger has to go through customs.

1. What identification is necessary when crossing the U.S./Canada border?
Identification is necessary for Customs and Immigrations. Due to heightened security at the border crossing all travelers are encouraged to travel with a passport. If you are a United States or Canadian born citizen a valid driver’s license is sufficient, however we strongly recommend an original birth certificate or certified copy of a birth certificate. Please carry photo identification with you!
2. What identification do children need?
Adults are required to provide identification and proof of citizenship for each child or infant. If only one parents is traveling with the child, they must have written authorization from the other parent or proof of custody along with a telephone number where they can be reached to verify the authorization.
3. What if you are not a United States or Canadian born citizen?
If you are not a United States or Canadian born citizen youll be required to have a passport and possibly a visa.
4. What do U.S. Permanent Residents require?
A Permanent Resident or holder of the immigration green card needs to present a valid card at the border.
