They ought to pay all requisite taxes, including social security taxes and income taxes of their illegals. Everyone knows this iilegal cheap labor is a big plus to business as long as someone else picks up some of the tab and they dont end up being fined or jailed.
Dr. Camarata of CIS - who's about my age - says that when he was going to college in the 70's, construction labor paid about $8/hr, which when adjusted for inflation would now be about $18/hr.
I did a lot of construction labor under those same conditions and at the same time, and I know the $8/hr figure is correct.
My understanding is that illegals are paid $10/hr to $14/hr (cash), so in fact illegal aliens have forced a wage decline (not to mention a skills decline) on today's job site.
This was stated on a radio interview, and it was funny that shortly after saying this they took calls from several guys who asserted they "couldn't find native Americans" who were motivated to work the same way illegals are. To which Camarata said (paraphrased) "If you'd pay the adjusted $18/hr or more that we were being paid in the 70's, you'd probably get a better quality of American applicant."
Which is absolutely true, since I do recall that most of the American construction guys were average Joe's supporting a family and mortgage, and there were even a few laborers with mortgages. Not many, but they existed. Certainly us student types were able to sock away enough for the 9-months of school year expenses.
But it's important to remember that contrary to popular belief, illegal alien "day laborers" have measurably reduced and not increased the pay scale for unskilled labor in America.
Presumably this cuts across the country's entire unskilled labor rate and market.
"Illegal aliens: taking the substandard hourly pay that qualified Americans won't work for."
