Don’t be so quick to cast stones here. A child napping quietly in the backseat and your so focus is in front of you as you get out of the car with your mind elsewhere. This is a tragic, tragic occurrence.

I'm sorry---IMHO, there's no excuse for this. We had 5 kids in 9 years--in Texas in the summer, and somehow, I managed to never forget one in the car.

However, I was never hooked into a career (other than motherhood), and dropping my kids off at day care either, so maybe that's the difference.

Regardless, I do feel sorry for these parents. How on earth do you ever recover from something like this? Prayers for them..........

I NEVER forgot my kids. Ever.

When you're a parent, it's your first priority. Being so obsessed with yourself that you think everyone around you is taking care of the things you couldn't bother to do yourself is incredibly selfish.

No mom who has bonded to her baby EVER forgets about that baby. EVER. It's nature's way.

Career moms in my observation often don't really bond with their babies. I suspect they have a lower level of maternal hormones circulating in their systems -- whether because of career distractions, divided loyalties, or simply separation (infant placed in daycare).

We had an assistant county prosecutor here in NJ leave her infant unattended in a car for hours recently. Same excuse -- she "forgot" to take the baby to daycare. Fortunately the day was on the cool side, and the baby lived.

You are not a parent, obviously.
