It would be more accurate to say that accounts or possibly rumors to this effect spread through SW Utah. Whether they did or did not say such things cannot now be determined. There is no real proof one way or the other.
Similar rumors, or just possibly accurate accounts, of Mormon intentions had a great deal to do precipitating with the mob attacks on Mormons in MO and IL. Is the same mitigation of guilt appropriate in their case, in your opinion?

OBL is a criminal and war criminal. I'd never wish him well. However, just because I'd run into OBL wouldn't justify me in getting a group together and slaughtering over 100 random Muslims, including women and children.
