Just a criminal. IMO, the penalties on the books are far from the appropriate remedies for the crimes. For example, in this case, the perp should serve 25 years. He’s a scumbag leach anyway.

When I lived in coastal Florida 20 years ago some friends told me they walked up to a group of people on the beach at night who were examining what they assumed—because of some markings—was a sonar buoy that had washed up. Some military police and various experts began to arrive and the public was asked to stand back 60 feet from the object while it was examined. Days later my friend ran into a Coast Guard technician he had met that night. The Coast Guardsman said the object was Soviet and was designed to intercept and monitor the noise or vibration of ships passing by giving off a unique signature. He said this device was generally submerged, moored to the ocean bottom by cable and anchor.
He said the computer that ran the device was a store-bought Hitari video game.

The suspect, Roman Voznyuk, was arrested as he tried to re-enter the U.S. this month.

Nice catch. (thanks for the ping.)
