If youâve been dreaming about breaking the world record for fluke, you may need to dream a little bigger. On Friday, a potential International Game Fish Association (IGFA) world-record summer flounder was decked south of Shrewsbury Rocks, two miles off Monmouth Beach, N.J., by Monica Oswald.

NJ Doormat ping.
It’s gonna take a lot of crabmeat dressing to stuff that baby! WOW! Congrats to the lady.
Nice sized flatfish and a lot of good eating, but a record?
Don’t Pacific halibut normally run a lot larger?
Eh, if you read the article, a lot suspicious about it. She left it in the cooler overnight outside and it was “ravaged by animals.”
Pacific Halibut and Summer Flounder (Fluke) are completely different species.
There’s also Atlantic Halibut, which can be hundreds of pounds, but they were massively overfished and there are very few of them left. They’re also a different species.
Awwww, isn’t it cute? It looks a little like a tiny little baby halibut!
My uncle’s 14’ boat was nearly capsized by a halibut he thought was dead, when it started thrashing around.

using a ling jig fer crying out loud. I love surf fishing. That must a nice stretch to fish. I didn’t read but am guessing 11 pounds. My friend caught a 9 plus pounder flounderunder San Luis Pier once time about 10 years ago. We call em doormats too.
Fish on a bicycle ping.
maybe 8.5 pounds, didn’t read the article, here is some good salt and freshwater catches.http://www.freerepublic.com/~eastforker/-+
Sorry, I have to laugh at all you damned Yanks. That’s not a fish, it’s some sort of leaf or garbage or something....Now a bluegill, THAT’S a fish....:)
She must be strong.
We could flounder around for the halibut over flatfish definitions and any consensus we came to would be a fluke.
.
Some very interesting comments attached to the original article.
I was gonna ping ya but here y’all are!
so what, it was already weighed, measured and recorded at the bait shop
Heh, heh!
Does anyone remember Yogi Jorgensen’s “Who Hid the Halibut in the Poop Deck”?
Anyway, great catch! What’s the best way to cook ‘em?
The hook mounted on the wall is actually supporting the weight.......
Ah thanks, I missed that.
