Legendary Entertainer and Environmentalist Receives Annual Master Builder Award
(Albany, NY April 16, 2004...) State Parks Commissioner Bernadette Castro today announced that noted singer, actress and environmentalist Bette Midler was receiving the Long Island State Parks' Seventh Annual Master Builder Award. The honor is in recognition of her achievements in the entertainment industry and her founding of the New York Restoration Project, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to revitalizing and maintaining parklands, gardens, and public spaces in New York City.
"The whole idea with cutting the trees down was with the idea of improving the lot with native species" instead of the nonnative, invasive species that had grown there, Graham said. "It's unfortunate that a mistake was made."
