I am constantly amazed about the general ignorance of the Fourth Estate when it comes to the Vietnam era. The secret bombing of Cambodia by B-52s and subsequent short term “invasion” targeted North Vietnamese supply sanctuaries located along the border of Vietnam. The North Vietnamese were the ones violating the territorial integrity of Cambodia. Nixon’s “expansion” of the war actually facilitated our phased withdrawal from Vietnam. Nixon’s landslide win in 1972 was because he kept his promise to decrease American military involvement in Vietnam, not expand it. That’s just a fact.

Mega, mega dittos. I was trying to think how to explain this but you did it so well, there is nothing left to say.

So true ... Nixon co-opted McGovern’s main platform issue. Had the US kept up its aid to the South, there’d have been no Killing Fields or Boat People.

Couldn't agree more. And don't forget Laos. The so-called Ho Chi Minh Trail was a egregious violation of territorial sovereignty that was never seriously addressed by the ignorant Fourth Estate. The best recent (and serious) analysis of these issues is found in: "The Myth of Inevitable US Defeat in Vietnam." (Routledge; January 1, 2002)
