Animal control officers say the victim was covered in blood after the dogs attacked PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. - In what deputies describe as the worst mauling they've ever seen, two pit bulls entered a Wauna-area home via the pet door and attacked a woman in her bed.
Pierce County Sheriff's Dept. spokesman Ed Troyer said a neighbor's Jack Russell terrier also entered the home in the 10600 block of 132nd St. Court NW through the dog door and the pit bulls attacked the terrier named Romeo.
The 59-year-old woman was in bed, in her room. Neighbors say she was sound asleep when the attack happened. She managed to get away, run to her car, lock herself in and call 911. Even after fighting off the dogs, she was in pretty bad shape.

Two pit bulls entered a Pierce County home and attacked a woman in her bed.
"Pretty much from head-to-toe, she was covered in blood," said Pierce County Animal Control officer Brian Bowman.
Troyer said firefighters locked the pit bulls in the house until deputies arrived. Officers had to use pepper spray and fight the dogs to get them into custody.
The woman was taken to St. Joseph Hospital, where she was listed in satisfactory condition. The terrier was taken to an animal hospital, where he died Tuesday afternoon.
The pit bulls were taken to the Pierce County Humane Society, where they will remain until the case is resolved.
The pit bulls also attacked a Jack Russell terrier named Romeo.
Troyer said the owner of the pit bulls has been identified and lives on the same street as the victim. KING 5 went to the home, but nobody answered the door. Neighbors say they have had problems in the past with the two pit bulls running wild.
Information will be given to prosecutors, who will decide what, if any, charges will be filed against the owners. Animal control officers say they will recommend gross misdemeanor charges at the very least.
I have had 9 Jack Russels and out of the 9 only one was a biter
~~~~~~~~~~
You think that is a good statistic? Do you really think there are more than one in nine pitts that are biters?
Think again.
Baby pitts are cuter than that little thing. Your picture proves nothing.
What a terrible thing, huh? To sacrifice your child for vanity.
yes, perhaps he screamed when they broke into his room and started ripping his head off.
Or a person.
I don’t consider a Jack Russell Terrier to be a Pit Bull. I’ve always had the big lab mixes, also a Border Collie, an Irish Setter, a Newfoundland and a Belgian Sheepdog.
As for fear of dogs, personal experience, the Belgian landed me in the emergency room with 300 stiches. Good dog, dumb me. Made the mistake of petting him when he was sleeping. He was 14 and a little senile and I should’ve known better. In the 14 years I had him, he was never aggresive.
I’ve never owned a Pit, and never will, but I have had a dog in my life for all of my 47 years.
My little 12 pound Jack would defend me with his life.
It’s been one day since a pit bull attacked and killed 7-year-old Zachary King, Jr. Neighbors can’t stop talking about what happened to the boy - and what they fear could happen to other children.
“After this situation, I fear for my kids safety around pit bulls or any type of dog,” said Lincoln Freeman, surrounded by his two girls and one-year-old son.
Neighbors say they haven’t noticed a huge spike in the number of pit bulls on their streets, but they know they’re around.
“I see a few here and there, but this is the north side,” Freeman said.
Officials say there are 280 licensed pit bulls in the city of Minneapolis, but they believe there could be more thousands more.
“Many people do not license their pets,” Tom Deegan of Minneapolis Animal Care and Control said.
Officials say they’re often called about aggressive pit bulls, but animal control officers say they’re not targeting the breed, they’re targeting the behavior.
I'm afraid those two pits would be picking their teeth with the Dane's bones when you checked on them the next morning.
Here's the cell-mate you want for the pits. He's bigger, faster and stronger in every way. He would just about swallow them whole.
One in nine are biters, the other 8 are killers. That cross bred abortion should be wiped off the earth. There is no reason for them other than sick, disgusting dog fighting, and that's exactly what they were cross bred to do. They are mental cases without exception.
Oh jeeze, this is what we've come to? We're politically correct with dogs now?
S'Okay. I take it you just don't like Jack Russells given your disdain for my little furball pic.
He's plenty cute to me and I'm certain he's not going to rip my throat out in the middle of the night.
Can you tell me which breed you do find acceptable? Just curious.
An Akita will do a number on a pit bull. They are powerful dogs and fearless. Plus they have enough fur and thick hide that a pit wouldn’t be able to get a good grip on it. Unfortunately they aren’t a good family dog either, they are very territorial. Good farm dog though, as long as you don’t have little kids running around.
LOL! It's Minnesota, after all!
GAHHHHRRRRRRRRR PUPPY SO CUTE
Well, MPLS is a sanctuary city for illegals. I guess it’s working for the PB’s, as well....
We have a 4 yr old female JRT that can be very aggressive to strangers until they show her they are harmless. She has’nt bit anyone but there have been times when I thought she might.
“I really see no need for this breed of dog. A small child was killed a week or so ago in Minneapolis by the family pet.”
I don’t either. Whats wrong with a lab? Barring a situation where you need real protection why in gods name would you want an animal that could do that much damage if it ever went after a person? A beagle can’t kill a healthy adult. A pit could rip the face off a healthy adult.
He's all grown up and a defender of his family. Beware the Sparkster! His bark alone will scare away door-to-door solicitors. I love him for that!
