I suppose it is good that there is a book on being manly. But the truth is those of us born with big brass balls to a father with more body hair than a silverback, don’t need no stinking instruction book on what to do with our over abundance of testosterone. the book is probably helpful for eunuchs, but the people in my life have fruitlessly spent themselves trying to tame and civilize my manliness and aggressive Independence. As for the Jackass stuff....when you grow up knowing you are a man created in the very image of God himself, you don’t have to light a firecracker in your a$$crack to prove nuthin’ to nobody, your manliness is unquestionable! For some of us training a son to be manly sounds like “plan B” for those who don’t inspire manliness in every trial of life. If you question your ability to inspire manliness in your sons to the point where you feel buying a book might appease the ghost of manhood lost and educate your metrosexual self on what it means to be a man, then the battle may already be doomed, but, if like me you are wondering how the hell they wrote a book on manliness without first talking to the expert then you will probably not have to worry about sissy-boy kids or a bored wife. If you don’t buy the manliness self help book then you’ll never have to worry about where you’re going to hide it when a real man comes over to your house. Save your money and get a few John Wayne movies to show the boys what a man is.

While I agree with most of your post do not forget that many many children of my generation did not have the luxury of having a man present in their upbringing (due to feminist theory of the 70’s). Perhaps this will teach those men of my generation whos fathers were gone how to be better fathers themselves. Or perhaps the book is total crap, I don’t know, I haven’t read it.
