I only have one problem with the poll results. I think churches should be allowed to retain their sancturary status. I’m not even catholic. But I don’t care. As long a person is in a church praying and volunteering and doing as the church asks them to do, i think they should be left alone no matter what they did...but once they step out the door or the priests no longer wish to provide sanctuary, that’s it. But law enforcement should need permission to enter and apprehend.

I don’t agree with that. Its very nice in theory but if that becomes widespread practice then all manner of criminals will use churches for sanctuary. Heck some unscrupulous folks will probably set up churches as shields for their criminal counterparts.

Oh, be serious. If John Wayne Gacy or Charles Manson ran into a church a cried “Sanctuary!” like he was some kind of Quazimodo, you’d be fine with that?

“I think churches should be allowed to retain their sanctuary status”.
RETAIN their sanctuary status? Since when have they ever had a sanctuary status in the United States? This is not 12th Century Europe.
ICE should have broke down the church door, if neccessary, to get in and arrest her sorry ass and any “clergy” who harbored her as well.

So I can break any law that I want, declare my house a church, and avoid any consequences?

OK, So in another country, Osama or whoever should be able to enter a mosque, and expect sanctuary?? For the rest of his life?? Rerardless of what crimes the person committed?

To me, it makes absolutely no sense!

I will agree except for crimes involving violence.

As long as a person is in church...i think they should be left alone no matter what they did...

Let's use a hypothetical crime to which we can apply your reasoning.

"A person gets hit by a reckless driver whose car jumps the curb. The victim is injured, but the driver bolts into a nearby church. He knows the police can't touch him there. Meanwhile, the victim's been taken to the emergency room of a hospital and the family is beside themselves with worry.

The perpetrator found a safe haven...he/she, and the minister/reverend/pastor/priest don't have to obey the law."

What is the difference between the subject case and any other situation where someone breaks the law?
