Gravity is the weakest force in the universe.
Tell you what. The magazine Sky and Telescope is excellent. Every month packed with astronomy. Aside from that there are some books that lay out cosmology for the laymen such as Fabric of Space by Brian Greene. That would make more than a good start.
Isn't it fun to tell stories that can't be confirmed or refuted?
We have never seen 2 neutrons 'stick together', yet we can tell stories like it happened 'Once upon a time and far, far away...'.
Put enough iron in one place and you get neutronium.
Why? Because Iron will NOT fuse and release energy. Read all the responses, your answers are in them.
Gravity is the weakest force in the universe and you *assume* that gravity dominates stellar evolution.
Do you know that over 99% of the universe is plasma? Do you know that plasma is electrically charged? Do you know that the electro-magnetic force is thousands of times stronger than gravity?
If it is near the limit for the parallax method, which 250 l-y would be, then they need something else such as the Cepheid variable method, but that would be tough for a dead neutron star. They probably had to estimate the distance by the intensity of whatever radiation it gives off, and that would be really approximate for a lone neutron star out there with no binary companion.

Silly me.....I always thought he was Calvara
It’s a physics story and fairly objective. If somebody has an alternate interpretation they are welcome to submit it to see if it flies.
Asimov wrote some non-fiction on this subject that’s rather easy to understand. I read one where he discusses the different atomic forces in layman’s terms, but can’t think of the exact title. Sorry, that’s probably not much help.
“A Brief History of Time” by Stephen W. Hawking might be of some interest to you. Worth a look, I think.
RA was banned some time ago.
So when I say, "Kill the engine" or "The engine is dead," I am guilty of bad usage of English?

Maybe your English is on a dead end road.
no, you’re guilty of murder!
No assumption necessary:

In astrophysical plasmas, Debye screening prevents electric fields from directly affecting the plasma over large distances (ie. greater than the Debye length).

You have to be very careful when getting your information from Creationist websites. They lie, shamelessly.
Thanks Right Whale. Suggestions from an expert in the field is the way to go.
Thanks Monkfan, the reference to Asimov is enough of a lead.
I get the FR blue screen of death when I do a search on his screenname.
