Other than minimal chicken and fish, I’ve gone vegetarian - I eat plenty of carbs too; except I do high fiber carbs - brown not white; and I limit cheese and dairy, except for my skim milk - I’ve lost 5-6 pounds in about 3-4 weeks with NO effort at all.

I’m doing it for health reasons - I think we consume WAY too much meat. In ancient times, people had to HUNT for their meat so eating meat was not a commonplace thing; later, meat was very expensive so people ate little. That’s why only the wealthiest - royalty, nobility, etc. were pasty-white fatsos. Meat is fine to eat but should be eaten sparingly.

Not only do we eat too much meat, but I suspect things like bread and pasta would also not have been eaten until farming developed.

Who would want to go through the laborious process of preparing something like wheat, when easier foods to prepare could be had ready to eat raw right off the tree?

I also suspect that bread and pasta are bad for teeth; if so, that would be further proof we should not be eating such things.

Man or rather what was to become man, ate a 90 to 100% meat diet. That came from the coprolites at palces like olduvai Gorge, the Swartcairns cave, etc.

Some 2.5 million years ago, what we call the Atkins diet was what we lived.

Everyone is different. I say this as a former vegan. Over 5 years of no dairy, meat, eggs, etc. Lots of fruits, veggies, grains, nuts, and some oils. I stopped because I got sick of the limitations and sick of hearing about how stupid my choices were from non-vegans. I ate the same as before, but I added meat to the rotation. It wasn’t until a few years ago when I was trying to lose 10 pounds for my wedding and went on Atkins, that I realized how much better I felt overall by limiting carbs. Less sluggish. Less bloated. Way more energy.

Yes, we used to hunt for our meat and therefore burned a lot of calories getting that meat. But it’s pretty hard to get fat from eating a true low-carb diet. With carbs you eat, your blood sugar goes up, and you’re hungry again in a short amount of time. With meat you’re satiated longer and your blood sugar stays stable.

My mom has Celiac disease and my dad is a competitive weight lifter (at age 65 - he rocks!) and both have switched to low carb as a lifestyle choice (and health choice for my mom). I visited them today and both are doing great health-wise.

But hey, everyone is different. If high-carb, vegetarian works for you, congratulations! I say that without trying to be smug or sarcastic - that can be hard to get across online.
