Howie Carr live thread. Howie is on vacation this week (in Florida) and supposedly Col. David Hunt will be in for him, all week. We'll let you know if there are any changes...Since Howie's gone all week we will do one ping thread and those on the Howie list will be pinged to it every day.
Howie Carr Show ping. Col. Hunt in all week, we heard
Howie say last Friday.
>>Howie Carr
Col David Hunt from Fox News is sitting in for Howie this week.
As you may have seen on another thread, the womens’ talk
radio network (all 8 stations of it) went off air after
last Friday. The station in Albany went to ESPN. The
station in Beverly MA is putting other talk shows on
(Dr. Joy Brown, Doug Stephan). Anyone up in VT able
to tell me what WTWK 1070 is doing (Calvin Locke, can
you pick up that signal?). Just curious. First Air
America, then the failed womens’ talk network. They
must really care about programming THAT station! :)
I can’t change the station fast enough when I hear Col. Hunt talking. I like what he has to say, but he has a voice for silent film.
Sigh, gotta agree with you. May still check in from time
to time; but I’m not too fond of raspy voices like his (though
maybe it came from a war injury, to be honest).
It did. Shot in the throat during Vietnam.
Ah, thought I had heard that—thanks.
I think I’m turned off by raspy voiced hosts because I have
done radio myself (college radio) and when I go on with
a bit of a cold/sore throat I hate how it sounds.
We’re talking the Vick case, apparently.
Sen Byrd:
“Poor dog. Poor dog...God created the dog.
The dog...died...Died, died, died, the dog...died...”
btw I guess the little league world series games got
rained out today; New England team from Walpole, MA
was due to play at 6 pm. I think it gets shifted to
tomorrow. That’s what the ESPN crawl said at least.
Oh, and from the LL site:
>>All World Series Games for Monday August 20, 2007 are Postponed
http://www.walpolelittleleague.com/
Sally Jesse is on now, after about 10 minutes worth of commercials.
Reverse history, from what I remember is: Eve, AAR, ESPN, AAR, Hannity. That's the extent of my knowledge.
I'm pretty sure it was like the #6th AAR station, debuting immediately after the initial five, anyway.
Check it out, eve1070.com, but the page said the last update was a month ago, and your Dr. Joy Brown was on 12-3.
Oh OK! Yeah the one a mile down the road from me (WNSH)
is apparently running Dr. Joy Browne not once but twice:
the initial feed from WOR New York 12-3 pm and then, again!
You’re right, 1070 had some talk like Hannity, etc then
went to AAR, ESPN, back to AAR, and then Eve. The 1390
had been AAR for awhile (and is now sports as WCAT). I was walking around Winooski (especially near the falls)
tuning a Sony Walkman and 1390 (running Stephanie Miller)
was all over the dial due to the closeness of the antenna
(in the intervale section of Burlington)
I have checked out the site too and no change yet.
I once saw on the rec.radio.shortwave usenet group that a guy in NJ was picking up the 5Kw signal one night.
Yeah 1390 was good when it was WVAA, classic country.
I picked up Air America and some felt it could stand
for Vermont Air America.
Someone picked them up in Florida (though he listed
the frequency incorrectly as 1400):

>>I almost drove off the road when I heard the “local” spots for a Middlebury , Vermont business...and a Vermont March of Dimes charity event, followed by the WCAT bumper.
What 1390 does now, sports:
http://www.wcat1390.com/
should say IT picked up AAR, not I...
But the other two main talk stations do mostly sports on the weekend.
The worst time was when WTWK first went to AAR. Hannity moved to 1420 (1Kw) up in St. Albans. They also carried the BoSox.
So, you have a NY-BOS game, Howie's bumped, Hannity's bumped, and the CC station was carrying Don & Mike or something like that at the time. "The Mighty JFK".
And 1390 had C&W.
Sigh. Make it September already.
They should really strap some water-wings on the poor Colonel when they throw him into the deep end like this...
Raccoon,
Any word about Dennis and Callahan?
Still nothing...will let you know once I hear.
>>And 1390 had C&W.
Well, I like country but given the example you gave
as far as talk was concerned, that sounded like a very
tough situation!
Re-pinging the list for Tuesday show.

Finneran fights for pension: Calls revocation cruel punishment
By Casey Ross
Boston Herald Reporter
Tuesday, August 21, 2007
Convicted felon and former House Speaker Thomas Finneran is battling to regain his taxpayer-funded pension by arguing that its revocation amounts to an excessive fine under the constitutional amendment that bans cruel and unusual punishment, the Herald has learned.
Attorneys for Finneran, whose $31,269 a year pension was suspended after he pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice, are expected to make that argument before the states retirement board, which will decide whether his pension should be permanently stripped.
A source with knowledge of the case said Finneran will argue that revoking his pension constitutes an excessive fine under the Eighth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which prohibits the government from inflicting cruel punishments or unreasonable financial penalties on offenders.
Finnerans case was scheduled for a private hearing today, but the session was postponed at the request of his attorneys, said Alison Mitchell, a spokeswoman for state Treasurer Timothy Cahill.
Meanwhile, critics immediately pounced on the former speakers argument yesterday. It seems like an excessive stretch to me, said Barbara Anderson, executive director of Citizens for Limited Taxation. If you want to keep your pension, play by the rules and never lie.
Finnerans attorney, Richard Egbert, could not be reached for comment yesterday. Finneran did not return a phone message left at his home.
Under state law, a government employees pension can be cut off if he is convicted of a felony linked to his job. Finneran pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice after lying under oath about his involvement in a controversial plan to redraw voting districts.
Finneran testified that he had never seen the redistricting plan before it was released publicly, but later admitted he lied because he was angered by accusations that the plan attempted to whiten his district.
A source said Finneran also plans to argue that his obstruction of justice conviction did not directly intersect with his public duties and should not be a basis for stripping a pension he earned during a 26-year career in the state Legislature.
Finnerans pension payments would give him $2,605 per month, according to state figures. He currently works as the morning talk host of Finnerans Forum, the morning drive-time show on WRKO AM.
