AIT, ICE can only deliver Ms. Arellano to the border if it wanted to effect the deportation order quickly. The Mexican government’s cooperation for a repatriation inside its own country (say Mexico City or other interior city) would be necessary. For political reasons, President Calderon would not agree to it and Mexicans, prickly about sovereignty (yes, ironic) would object more than vociferously to this compromise of Mexican sovereignty.

Given everything that is in play, it was not a bad day. (And I write this — possibly — from Mexico.)

If she re-enters the US (and commits another felony in doing so) that will actually be a good thing. Why? It will show what a joke border security is — and be a visible and known public example. We all know what she looks like. She cannot hide from the law forever.

Just in time for the presidential campaign, and perhaps in time to stop some other individuals with truly deadly intentions from crossing the now poorly protected border.
