You probably know more about this than I do, but I thought Mary Todd Lincoln’s family were slave owners and that she was rumored by some to be a confederate sympathizer? I highly doubt that she was, and it’s certainly not her fault what her parents or other relatives did, but I also highly doubt that she guided Abe to his views.

Mary Todd was a kind of family rebel, and I don’t mean the Confederate kind. She married Lincoln in spite of what her sister thought.of him. Oh, yes, her family was Confederate and she lost relatives in the war. Washington held it against her. But her sentiments about were more like those of Cassius Clay than most.
