>>>You are missing the point.<<<

I understand their point. However their premise is flawed.

Star Wars depicted space ships traveling beyond light speed through asteroid belts. The generation of scientists inspired by Star Wars didn’t get confused... instead they managed to separate science fiction from what could potentially be science fact.

Honestly... would you want to send you kids to a school where the science professors determined that the typical student was too stupid to understand Physics 101.

Would we accept this logic from English teaches... students watching Scarface can’t possibly learn how to speak and properly?

What about history teachers...That Gladiator movie was so popular... we can’t never teach about Roman Civilization.

It’s largely a joke... defeatist and useless.

The professor wasn't saying they were too stupid - he was saying they had a warped idea of basic kinetics, and that he had to work to undo the misconceptions such movies put in the head of these kids. And yes, I would prefer to have a professor who recognizes that the students are lacking fundamental skills rather than one who doesn't notice, or give a damn.

Your English analogy is false. People mangle the English language all the time in real life, but kids get exposed to the real thing often enough to where they can tell the difference. However, nobody, and I mean NOBODY, defies the laws of physics in real life. Ever.

As for the history-based movies, I would say that I hope any historian worth a damn would realize the warped view of history that movies give people as well. If you believe the movies these days, Vietnam Vets were all crazy, drugged out baby killers, every native of the Southern states is an ignorant redneck waiting for his chance to kill the colored folk, Muslims were innocent victims of Christian aggression during the Crusades, and on and on. How are you going to teach about proper history when your students have been absorbing leftist propaganda for years?
