MIAMI — A group of screaming runners makes its way through the streets of South Beach. Restaurant patrons look up from their meals with startled expressions. One runner blows on a conch shell.

Others chant, "On, On!"

At the halfway mark in the five-mile run they stop at a bar called Lost Weekends to hydrate themselves — with beer.

I participated in 2 Hash Club runs when I was in the Army in Korea. Probably 2 of the most fun days of my life!

Alcohol is a diuretic. I do not recommend this!

Unless of course it’s Rolling Rock. Exceptions can always be made for Rolling Rock.

There are HHH chapters all over the world. Great fun. I have run in Jakarta, Medan, Tehran, Riydah, Yemen, and many places in Europe.

Didn’t Madison say that beer is a sign God wants man to be happy?

We used to put a keg at the end of the race. We thought that improved our times. There is nothing so soothing as a cold keg draft at the end of a good run.

Isn’t that called carb loading or something like that. Beer is loaded with carbs, so some distance runners will have pasta washed down with beer before a big race to have plenty of carbs to burn. These runners just need to get their timing straight on when to have a brewski.

Running is optional, some walk.

That's the way we did it, too. There was beer and all sorts of snacks and goodies at the END of the race. I've never heard of stopping at the half way point to drink beer.

Most hash clubs wait till the end to drink. As for drinking some beer at the half way point, well, to some people a 5 mile run isn't a big deal.
