Three out of four U.S. adults will be either overweight or obese in 2015, and 41% will be obese, a new report predicts.
That's up from the 66% who are currently overweight or obese and 34% who are currently obese, note Youfa Wang, MD, PhD, and colleagues.
Wang works in Baltimore at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health's Center for Human Nutrition.
Wang's team reviewed 20 studies on the growing ranks of overweight and obese kids, teens, and adults across the U.S.
The review paints a portrait of America's growing girth, with no end to the trend in sight.

Look at the people walking around nowadays! Ten years ago “far side” was just a cartoon. Now I feel like I live in it.
Under a Slick Willie’s Wife DemocRAT administration? I don’t think so.
You know, this seriously reminds me of the Bible. The Bible talks about how a nation goes through stages as it rejects God, and one of the stages is how it becomes wealthy and fat (and I never took the “fat” part literally), and then God “shuts up the womb”, and it’s interesting how birthrates are crashing in Western countries. It’s eerie.
Are they changing the definition again?
I sure wish my two large pizzas would arrive. I’m famished.
Hey! Maybe we wobble more when we walk around, but we seldom fall down.
I must be ahead of the curve, as usual.
Agreed. Something’s got to be done. I’m sure I’ll catch heck from the libertarian free-marketeers, but I don’t want to live in a society where everyone is obese/diabetic, and my tax dollars are going to pay their medical bills and benefits.
On the other hand, when unhealthy food is the cheapest and most convenient food around, it’s not like a lot of folks have a choice in what they eat.
The “free market” isn’t cutting it when it comes to food, imho.

You kidding??!?
Under SWW, fat people will be a victim class entitled to special treatment. Obesity will balloon (!) out of control!
Fat chance of that !!
8 years from now???? Heck I’m overweight now.
Well, that won’t be a problem as long as the women don’t make up all the obese numbers... ;-)
A simple solution! Remove all the motorized “Wallymobiles” from all of the Walmarts.
how so, all the corn & syrup will be used for gas, the cost of meat will be up..
we’ll all be eating vegetarian in no time...
Mc veg burger anyone...
When we do fall, we roll further.
honestly, the “fat” is less a question of wealth and more a question of lifestyle. If all you have the money and time for is fast food every day, you *will* get fat.
Europe, which is more godless and far more decadent, does not have our obesity problem by and large.
At 6’1” tall, I’m 8 pounds from being obese.
However, my stomach is mostly flat, I can ride 100 miles a day on my bicycle, and my doctor tells me that I’m healthy as the proverbial horse.
During the Clinton years, the standards for “obesity” were changed, making millions “obese” overnight. The press doesn’t report that little fact.
Yes, I know there are lots of morbidly obese people out there, but if we’re gonna talk about “obesity” then we need to have a valid definition of the problem. The BMI and other height-weight charts, all developed by people who gain monetarily by finding the greatest number of people to be overweight, simply don’t do it.
>> when unhealthy food is the cheapest and most convenient food around, its not like a lot of folks have a choice in what they eat
Well, first of all you haven’t offered any proof that unhealthy food is the cheapest alternative, though you may be correct as to its convenience.
BUT... EVERYONE with access to food can choose how much they eat.
