.40 cal is not a military caliber. They can't blame the war.
Other than kicking down doors and murdering 90 year old women in cold blood, why do the police need .223? The AR-15 and it's variants can easily be fitted with an adapter that will allow target qualification using .22LR ammo. I qualified using this ammo twice when I was active duty.
Actually, 40 caliber is SORT OF a military caliber.
The Coast Guard issues the 40 cal P-226 now instead of the beretta. When they get into the war zone, the master at arms takes back all the hollow point ammo and issues ball.
I have also been told that maybe the Delta Operators are carrying Glock 22s now, since the costs of custom 1911s are rising.
