Anne Arundel County officials said they will sever ties with government contractors that employ illegal immigrants, wading into controversial territory that has prompted lawsuits in other jurisdictions across the country.
County Executive John R. Leopold issued an executive order this week that will require businesses to sign an affidavit swearing they do not employ people living in the country illegally. Evidence that a company has hired illegal immigrants would constitute a "material breach of contract," allowing the county to drop the contractor from the job.
Leopold said the federal government "hypocritically" tolerates such practices, but Anne Arundel will not. "Any company that is complying with federal law and not hiring illegal immigrants will have nothing to be concerned about," said Leopold, a Republican.

My office is in Pikesville - but our main office is in Hyattsville. We’re actually merging with another company based in Fairfax, VA.
Hope you don’t have to commute to Fairfax (is that Fairfax City or Fairfax County?, not that it matters much.
Worst traffic in the DC area. There are no good commutes in Northern Virginia.
Most of my wife’s family is in Fairfax County. When we visit, it is almost always on a Sunday.
It seems that people who agitate to get affordable homes built in my area seem to want to pay West Baltimore City prices, and then live in Severna Park or Davidsonville - like it is owed them. Gimme a break.
So is Charles County, been to Waldorf lately? In 2004 it voted something like 65% Blue and it has a new anti-gun sheriff.
I am hoping that the higher house prices in AA than PG County helps us. With the BRAC movement of personnel down to Fort Meade the demand for housing (I hope) will keep prices up.
Most likely though, the areas west of Fort Meade(Laurel, Maryland City), and the Seven Oaks area of the county are pretty much PG County already, and will stay that way. Van Bokkelen (sp?) Elementary school can compare with the very worst schools in PG County. I don’t have much hope for Meade High School, with the eventual realignment of school boundaries. West county feeder schools are to be moved from Arundel High to Meade due to expected increase enrollment from areas east of Fort Meade, whose elementary schools already feed into Arundel High. We have a new Elementary School being built in my community. Now, if they would only build that 13th AA High School in Crofton. The county already has the land.
If the Feds wont do it then WE WILL one city/county at a time.
Headlines from WVNN.com in Huntsville Alabama:
Illegals Are On Commission’s Agenda Again
Friday, August 17, 2007
Madison County Commissioners will take up a proposal by Commissioner Mo Brooks today that would require contractors doing business with the county to sign a statement saying they are not employing illegal immigrants. Contractors would also have to report any illegals they find during employment background checks.
Since that time I understand we had an illegal alien rally at my high school where an American radio personality was FORBID entry over a flippin' T-shirt!!
The ACLU would have been all over that except for their heavy criminal investment in "undocumented migrants."
So you went to RM ???
Same.
They are building a new school on the athletic fields - suppose to tear down the old one ...
I heard that. Difficult to envision. I didn't recognize the place on our last "haunt." I still have family in Maryland though not on the Rockville/Mexico border.
U.S. Constitution, Article 4 Section 4:
"The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government,
1. The act of invading; the act of encroaching upon the rights or possessions of another; encroachment; trespass.

LOL!
CUBA and VENEZUELA are more conservative than Montgomery County, Maryland.
... One of the two arrested Saturday -- Rodolfo Godinez -- was described as a "principal player" in the schoolyard slayings.
Police had been seeking Rodolfo Godinez, 24, in connection with the schoolyard shootings.
Godinez -- a 24-year-old Nicaraguan immigrant -- was arrested in Prince George's County, Maryland, near Washington, D.C., law enforcement sources said.
His younger half-brother also was arrested a short time later Woodbridge, Virginia.
"It was a really dramatic and intense pursuit," said Dave Turner, spokesman for the U.S. Marshals Service.
Godinez was seized at what was described as a "flophouse" for day laborers, and he is being held in the county jail. Eight other men were in the house, police said.
No, I don’t commute to Fairfax. I commute to outside of Baltimore.
It seems like AA County schools are quite variable - the worst ones rivaling PG county, and the best are damn-near comparable to Howard County.
