In the middle ages in Europe there was a dancing hysteria where people would dance in crowds from one town to the next and end up dropping dead. The term St. Vitus's dance is "scientifically" thought to be from some kind of effect from mold or bacteria on the human nervous system. Actually, it sounds like a human propensity for mass hysteria is pretty strong. This would also explain the moonbat democrat phenomena.
