Even at today's high prices it would take about 11 years of Mom and Dad each smoking one pack per day to spend one year's average college tuition on tobacco. I think you've just put forth the weakest argument for anything ever made on FR.

Ok. Smokes are $3.50 in my neck of the woods. 2 packs a day for 10 years is roughly $25K if you wold just stick it in the mattress. Half of that if only one spouse smokes. If you factor in compound interest and the benefits of contributing to tax free or tax deferred programs, the amount is significantly more.

People that roll their own could still save a dollar day..

Half of $25k is $12.5k. Subtract the $1 per day you suggest and that is reduced to $8,850. Even with interest from a tax deferred program that won't amount to much when it comes to paying about $40k per year for college tuition. You've just made your assertion in post #306 even more ridiculous sounding.

You should have stuck with my figures based on two smokers and $5 per pack which is much closer to the national average. Do you usually undercut your own position when debating?

I have a lot of thoughts on this: 1. It would be great if everyone just quit, rolled their own or bought native American smokes just to screw the left wing Socialists, States and their budgets 2. The idea that the sheeple would actually save the money as opposed to blowing it on some other vice like fast food, booze or gambling is laughable and you know it 3. On a personal level just between me and you: How poor are you exactly? $90 per month would bankrupt you? What are you a public school teacher? Shoe salesman like Al Bundy?
