The writer needs to be reminded that JFK entered the race in November.
June or July would of been nice but Fred had reasons, August is a very slow news month, Little that happens gets much notice in August. September, however will be another prime time. Maybe just in time for the YouTube debate.

All I can say is, this story was printed way to early.
Six months from now, Say February of next year or so, if Fred has not decalaired, it might be valid, now it's just a silly story.

I doubt if he has waited TOO LONG. Only the die hard pols are even paying attention to what dozens of wannabes have to say 15 mos out of the next election.
The process is outta whack, when the race for POTUS 'starts' TWO YEARS before the end of his term!!
Hell, I will be inclined to vote for whomever ENTERS LAST from now on!!!

All one needs to do is look at some daily tracking polls such as
Rasmussen Reports Daily Tracking to determine if there is any credence to this journalist claims.
"Presidential Tracking Poll for Thursday shows Rudy Giulianis support slipping to 23% in the race for the Republican Presidential Nomination. Still, thats enough to keep the New Yorker on top as Fred Thompson earns 21% of the vote while Mitt Romney is the top choice for 15% Arizona Senator John McCain is now favored by 13% while former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee inches up to the 5% mark (see recent daily numbers)."

Yeah, he waited too long. I am ready to vote TOMORROW so the fact that he has yet to officially declare up to this point has turned me off. Oh well, what to do NOW for the next 15 months??? I guess I’ll turn my attention to the daily Hillary-Obama catfights.

I don’t think he’s waited too long - if he can live up to the hype - which peaked a month or so ago and now is turning to impatience.
He’s just setting the bar higher for himself...meaning he’s going to have to impress that much more in order to run away with this thing.
From what I’ve seen, he’s just not that type of candidate.
If he can communicate better than Romney - which would really surprise me, then I’ll support him.

I don't think his timing is the problem....
Even though he says nearly all the right things, I simply can't make myself believe him, and I do try because he is, in fact saying what I want the candidate to say.
I can't pin it down, but there's something there that just makes him seem fake or slimey to me.. and I honestly wish that were not the case.
As things stand, I'm pulling for Huckabee...

Ditto to everything in the article.

Thompson's window is now closed. If Thompson, as believed, announces in September, he will STILL be announcing two months earlier than RWR did for the 1980 election, one month earlier than George H.W. Bush for the 1988 election, one month earlier than Clinton for the 1992 election, and--holy cow!--THREE months after GW announced.
So can we please stop this silly crap about how "radical" it is to announce so "late" in the cycle?
