In 2003 I got permission from my manager and his manager to put a Support The Troops board up in our office building of our large Seattle area company. This board was to be used by employees to place pictures of their loved ones in the service, letters from them, information on how to send the troops care packages, stuff like that. Very non-political.

It wasn’t up a week before someone complained to HR who asked me to take it down immediately. I went up a couple more layers of management to get permission to place it back up. It is still up.
